Job Description
Our Client
Our client is a regional FMCG manufacturer looking for a General Manager to take complete ownership of its Iraq business.
This is a country P&L mandate spanning commercial, manufacturing, supply chain, finance and people. Baghdad based.
Your Mandate
You own the Iraq business and its numbers.
Revenue and market share matter. So do gross margin, EBITDA, cash, working capital, factory productivity and inventory.
You will:
- Set the Iraq strategy, annual operating plan and investment priorities.
- Grow revenue and market share through sharper route-to-market, distribution, pricing, portfolio and channel choices.
- Own manufacturing performance across cost, productivity, quality, capacity and service levels.
- Make the trade-offs between volume, margin, inventory, credit and cash that come with running an FMCG business in Iraq.
- Identify where the next growth will come from—new products, channels, geographies or investments.
- Manage critical relationships across distributors, key customers, suppliers and government stakeholders.
- Build a leadership team with clear ownership of business outcomes.
- Anticipate market and operating risks and make decisions quickly when conditions change.
Must-Have
- 18+ years in FMCG, including 5+ years owning a substantial P&L.
- Iraq operating experience is non-negotiable.
- Experience running an FMCG business with local manufacturing; food or adjacent consumer categories preferred.
- Evidence of improving both growth and profitability, not one at the expense of the other.
- Deep understanding of Iraq’s trade, distribution and route-to-market realities.
- Enough manufacturing and supply-chain depth to challenge the plant—not leave operations entirely to the factory team.
- Strong command of the numbers: margin, EBITDA, working capital, cash and return on investment.
- A leader who has operated across the whole business rather than grown up entirely within one functional silo.
This role needs a business operator, not simply a commercial leader with a GM title.
If you’ve run an FMCG P&L in Iraq and can point to what you changed—and what happened to the numbers as a result—we’d like to hear from you.
